The Yildirim (IMO: 9705469) is a highly advanced 7th-generation ultra-deepwater drill ship that stands as a cornerstone of Türkiye’s national energy independence strategy. Originally built by Samsung Heavy Industries as the West Dorado, the massive 228-metre vessel was acquired by Türkiye Petrolleri (TPAO) in mid-2025 and officially renamed in late December of that year. Designed to withstand extreme offshore conditions, it boasts a staggering drilling depth capability of up to 12,000 metres. Operating primarily out of Filyos Port in the Black Sea, the vessel is actively deployed in the highly strategic Sakarya Gas Field, where it plays a critical role in drilling deep-sea production wells to tap into the region's vast natural gas reserves.
