The NORTHERN OCEAN, recently acquired by Northern Offshore Services, as they re-enter the SOV market is a reliable workhorse of a vessel. Although several years old, is still going strong. Complement is approximately 60 persons, which is relatively small in comparison to other modern SOVs at 120-160 POB depending on arrangements. Most if not all cabins are single berth with their own ensuite shower/toilet wetroom. Spacious cabins, with reasonably sized TVs- connected to a Bazeport system which is updated monthly. Access to some terrestrial TV stations, however signal may be unreliable due to obstruction from turbines and/or vessel heading. There is a handful of double-berth cabins. WiFi works reliably, signal can often be obstructed due to cabin layout but no noticeable blind spots or issues. Marine crew and technicians using the same network without issues or bandwidth limitations. There is one main large lounge, with a large flat screen TV, a diverse selection of board games and card games, games consoles and plenty seating areas reasonably spaced out. Additional smaller lounge which is generally regarded as the "quiet lounge". Food on board differs between crew shifts. One shift has outstanding quality and variety in meals, the other not so much- often repetitive or experimental dishes being put out. There is, however, always an effort made to provide some level of variety, and all dietary requirements or allergies are treated with the strictest of confidence and professionalism. Stewards maintain cabins and accomodation to a high standard. Kept clean and well maintained. Cabins serviced twice a week and laundry done same-day. The gym on board is served by a good variety of equipment, split between two rooms. These however can feel rather cramped and stuffy. And can realistically only serve a handful of users at a time. Can often be a luck of the draw when it comes to getting use out of specific machines or equipment. Externally there are designated recreational areas for technicians and crew-only, however limited in their space and size due to vessel design. Overall the vessel is well looked after for her age, quiet accomodation and little to no adverse movement in any amount of weather. A professional and approachable marine crew, and new management which is looking to maintain a high standard of performance, all at the same time looking after their crew and boosting working relationship with the client(s) wherever possible.
