History and ownership
The Normand Drott Vessel (IMO: 9447964) is a heavy-duty Anchor Handling Tug Supply (AHTS) vessel built in 2010 by Aker Yards Brattvåg (now VARD). Originally named the REM Gambler, it was renamed in 2017 following its acquisition by Solstad Maritime.
A notable mission in 2016 saw the vessel rescue nine sailors from a burning yacht in the North Sea.
Technical details
The vessel is powered by a massive 32,792 BHP propulsion system, delivering a 339-tonne bollard pull for ultra-deepwater towing.
It features a Kongsberg K-Pos DP2 system and a 760 m² cargo deck. Technical capacity includes specialised Work ROV (WROV) systems for complex subsea mooring projects.
Operational area
Normand Drott primarily operates within the North Sea and the Norwegian Sea sectors. Real-time AIS tracking confirms the vessel is a frequent visitor to Norwegian maritime hubs, specifically Bergen and Sløvåg, as well as the UK subsea port of Peterhead.
Crew and lifestyle
Normand Drott jobs require STCW and advanced DP2 certifications.
The vessel accommodates 70 personnel in high-standard, climate-controlled cabins. Normand Drott reviews from crew often praise the onsite gym, Starlink-supported WiFi, and the quality of the ‘Solstad Lounge’ recreation area.
Environmental initiatives
The vessel utilises a specialised Kongsberg DP mode to reduce fuel consumption by up to 20% during DP operations. It holds a DNV Clean Design notation and participates in Solstad’s renewable biodiesel pilot programs.
