The Alessandro Volta (IMO: 1070002) is a next-generation offshore cable-laying vessel designed by Vard and operated by Prysmian Group to deploy deep-water subsea power grids. Measuring an impressive 192.8 meters in length with a massive 39-meter beam, it stands as the largest vessel ever constructed by the Vard shipyard. Engineered for extreme precision and endurance, the vessel features an advanced DP3 dynamic positioning system, a 130-person capacity, and three massive carousels capable of carrying 19,000 tonnes of high-voltage cable to depths of up to 1,500 meters. The ship is also a benchmark for maritime sustainability, utilizing a 3 MW hybrid battery storage system, biodiesel-optimized engines, and shore-power connectivity to dramatically minimize its carbon footprint during months-long offshore green energy operations.
