The WINDPIPER (IMO: 9765653) is a monumental achievement in marine engineering, currently operating as the world’s largest subsea rock installation and pipe-burying vessel. Originally laid down at China's Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding as a specialized deep-sea mining ship named Mac Goliath, the hull was later acquired and extensively converted by the Dutch maritime giant Royal Boskalis. Measuring an impressive 227 metres in length and 40 metres in beam, this massive 49,561-gross-ton vessel has been repurposed to support the global transition toward offshore renewable energy. Flying the flag of Cyprus, the WINDPIPER uses highly advanced dynamic positioning and specialized rock-dumping systems to precisely stabilize and protect subsea cables, pipelines, and offshore wind turbine foundations on the seabed.
