The VOS Gorgeous is an oil rig standby, rescue ship, we were on it while it was chartered as a survey vessel.
The cabins are well appointed, mostly double cabins with bunks, each with en-suite, tbe laundry has three machines, two for general laundry and one for coveralls, and these are fast, 30mins per cycle. An equal number of dryers competes, equally fast completes the facilities, there is an iron and an ironing board, but really, who cares.
The mess room doubles as the TV room and is supplied with satellite TV, this cuts out during turns, and anyway the chef makes so much noise you can't really hear the TV above the pots, pans and plates banging about.
There are numerous bean to cup coffee machine dotted around the boat, but this barely makes up for the lack of anywhere to doss during downtime.
There is a gym but it consists of a bike, a couple of dip bars, a weight machine and bizarrely, a treadmill.
The crew are mainly East European, very capable, friendly, and speak very good English. They tend to dissappear into the 20 bed hospital to rest, at least that's what we think, the survey crew where banned from this area. As a survey boat, the VOS Gorgeous was a good platform, although the bow acted as a sail and the large back deck is little more than a pickups flatbed. Prepare to get wet, the freeboard is less than a metre.
