History and ownership
The Nikolay Yevgenov LNG Tanker is an ARC7 ice-class LNG carrier built in 2019 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. Public sources list TC LNG Explorer III LLC as owner and Seapeak Maritime as manager.
The vessel is linked to Yamal LNG export work via the Northern Sea Route, with recorded calls including Sabetta, Zeebrugge, Montoir, Bilbao and Mugardos.
Technical details
As a specialised LNG tanker, it uses a tri-fuel diesel-electric (TFDE) propulsion system featuring three Azipod units. This configuration provides 360-degree manoeuvrability and the power required to break ice up to 2.1 metres thick.
A 2021 incident involved damage to one azipod during an LNG voyage from Sabetta to Tianjin, followed by repair work at Damen Shiprepair Brest
Operational area
The vessel primarily services the Sabetta port in Russia. Its assignments involve year-round operations in extreme sub-zero conditions.
Crew and lifestyle
Jobs on the Nikolay Yevgenov may require specialised Arctic certification.
Crew roles are likely LNG carrier-focused, including deck, engine, cargo and safety teams. Current Nikolay Yevgenov crew reviews mention clean accommodation, strong recreation facilities, gym equipment, pool and sauna.
Environmental initiatives
The vessel is fitted with dual-fuel Wärtsilä machinery capable of operating on gas as well as liquid fuels. When operated in gas mode, LNG can significantly reduce SOx, particulate matter and NOx compared with conventional marine fuels.
