Kps Faruk Bey

The Karadeniz Powership Faruk Bey is a highly specialized floating power plant engineered to deliver rapid, flexible energy solutions directly to coastal grids worldwide. Originally constructed in 1992 and later converted into a powership by the Turkish energy conglomerate Karadeniz Holding, this 76-metre Liberian-flagged vessel operates under the management of Istanbul-based Karmarine Karadeniz Denizcilik. Utilizing a robust infrastructure built around high-efficiency Wärtsilä engines, the ship acts as a mobile utility provider capable of anchoring off developing or crisis-stricken coastlines to bridge critical electricity gaps. With a gross tonnage of 2,966 tons, it represents a niche class of maritime engineering that converts heavy infrastructure into a deployable, plug-and-play humanitarian and economic asset.

This vessel serves as a transformer ship for the Karpowership vessels off the coast of Côte d'Ivoire. With a switchyard and transformer located on the aft deck, it functions to regulate the voltage of powerships whose output voltage is insufficient and to connect them to the grid. The living quarters are also used for personnel accommodation. However, it may be one of the worst-condition vessels you will ever see — the ship's main engine systems are not actively operational, and the toilet system was only temporarily brought back online after lengthy efforts. The A/C fan system and the fan room components are covered in mold and rot. There is no active catering service in the living quarters; meals are taken in the galleys of the neighboring vessels. Although the ship has participated in highly interesting operations in the North Sea throughout its history, it now sits idle and unmaintained at its current location. Split-type air conditioning units have been retrofitted in the cabins.
