The KARMOL LNGT POWERSHIP AFRICA (IMO: 9043677) is a pioneering Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) that marks a major milestone in West Africa's transition to cleaner energy. Originally built in 1994 as the LNG carrier Dwiputra, the 272-metre vessel underwent a massive technical conversion to become a stationary offshore gas processing hub. Jointly operated by Karpowership and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (KARMOL), it is permanently moored off Dakar, Senegal, where it receives liquefied natural gas, converts it back into a gaseous state, and pipes it directly to an adjacent floating powership. This innovative ship-to-ship infrastructure plays a critical role in the region's energy grid, supplying approximately 15% of Senegal's total electricity using LNG to significantly reduce the country's reliance on heavier, high-emission fossil fuels.
