The KARADENIZ POWERSHIP ORHAN ALI KHAN (IMO: 9248514) is a massive floating power plant designed to deliver immediate, flexible electricity to energy-stressed coastal regions. Built in 2001 as a 289-metre Japanese Capesize bulk carrier, the Liberia-flagged vessel was later converted by the Turkish energy firm Karpowership into a high-capacity mobile substation. It operates by mooring near target coastlines and feeding power directly into local national grids using multi-fuel onboard generators. Recently, the ship made maritime news in April 2025 when it safely recovered from a brief grounding incident in Turkey's Sea of Marmara. Following the incident, it resumed active service, utilizing its 87,390 gross tonnage framework to support critical infrastructure demands in regional ports like Umm Qasr, Iraq.
