IWS Moonwalker

The IWS Moonwalker is a cutting-edge Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) purpose-built to support the offshore wind energy sector. Built in 2025 by China Merchants Heavy Industry for Norway's IWS Fleet, this 90-metre vessel features an advanced Kongsberg design optimized for eco-friendly operations, including zero-emission readiness and plug-in hybrid battery capabilities. It serves as a highly efficient "walk-to-work" hub, utilizing a motion-compensated gangway and crane to safely transfer technicians and equipment to offshore wind turbines even in heavy seas. With premium accommodations for up to 120 personnel, the vessel combines high operational performance with worker comfort, making it a critical asset for the construction, commissioning, and maintenance of major European offshore wind farms.

Wifi was limited to a few G a day all given out as a weekly allowance, easy to use in short space of time. Accommodation is really nice, comfortable but quite small. The showers are a bit confined and the toilets are very low, one gets quite ‘close’ to the water when using the toilet. IWS are a great operator, very helpful, extremely professional and their SMS system is top class. The bridge is modern and easy to operate. Food was great - chief cook was a bit ‘grumpy’ so it looses a star but the Filipino catering crew were excellent. There wasn’t much to do after watch except sleep, so I am unsure about the facilities, the only reason it lost a star in that category is because the officer cabins are under the Gym ?????? so sleep was being lost because of the banging from the Gym ??????.
