The CMA CGM Marco Polo is a historic milestone in modern maritime engineering, entering service in November 2012 as the world's largest container ship by capacity. Spanning an immense 396 metres in length and boasting a carrying capacity of 16,020 TEU, this ultra-large vessel was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering to serve the busy Asia-Europe trade lanes. As the vanguard of CMA CGM's Explorer class, it integrated advanced environmental technologies, including an electronically controlled engine and an optimized hull design to significantly reduce carbon emissions per container. Though it has since been surpassed in sheer scale by newer megaships, the Bahamas-flagged vessel remains an active and vital workhorse of global commerce, symbolizing the peak of early 2010s naval architecture.
