The Clipper Iris is a modern Ultramax bulk carrier that represents the workhorse of current global dry-bulk shipping. Launched in 2016 from the Qingshan Shipyard in China, the vessel features a robust design optimized for the transport of heavy commodities like grains, coal, and ores. With a deadweight capacity of 63,550 tonnes and a length of nearly 200 metres, it strikes a balance between carrying capacity and port accessibility, allowing it to navigate a wider range of global harbours than larger Capesize ships. Operating under the Marshall Islands flag and managed by the Danish firm Clipper Bulk, the ship is equipped with four on-board cranes, making it "geared" and capable of loading or discharging cargo in ports that lack shore-based infrastructure. Since its delivery (originally as the Imme), it has been a consistent performer in mid-to-long-haul trade routes, currently maintaining a high standard of operational efficiency and international safety compliance.
